A data-driven website visualising key statistics from public, charitable and crowd sources for Hull City and supporting efforts to develop the city sustainably
Louis Dorton, Co-coordinator of We Are Here Hull – supported by Rights Community Action, said:
Hull City Council is creating a plan to guide how our city develops up to 2040. At We Are Here Hull, we wanted to build an online tool that would support our efforts to ensure that the needs of our ecosystems were valued, safeguarded and cultivated.
We sought to pull together as much data as we could from public bodies, community organisations and NGOs covering information that would be useful for communities in developing our priorities - social and economic inequality, floods maps, environment, heritage and culture, crime and policing, surveillance, and much more.
But we also wanted to place value on crowd sourced data and ensure the site included functionality wenabling people using the map to upload data including photos, map outlines and descriptions.
We've used the tool in our workshops with loads of different groups and it has helped to anchor the conversations we are having about our priorities for Hull. It's a great home for our data, and is enabling us to collate and communicate the thoughts of large amounts of people during the Hull Local Plan Update.
rabble.coop have been great all the way through, digging for data, building the map and working with us to get it working well. They couldn't have been more helpful, knowledgeable or able.
